Happy 10 Year Anniversary, Mama Linda’s Excellent Academy!

Happy 10 Year Anniversary, Mama Linda’s Excellent Academy!

On January 9, 2006 the doors first opened at MLEA. Eighty eager children were registered for nursery school. Over the last 10 years MLEA has expanded to grades Pre-Kindergarten through Class 8. We are the only elementary school in all of Tharaka to offer video learning and computers. Our school is absolutely vital in reaching the next generation of Kenyan leaders. Parents in Kenya will sacrifice anything to keep their children in school, especially an excellent school like ours.

Salome is a young girl who was brought to our school by her grandfather due to his inability to continue to pay for her education. While Salome was living with her family, she had to share her room with the family’s goats. Salome was known for having bouts of hysteria. We later discovered she had been physically abused by her uncle who would beat her up and make her stay up late at night to do chores. Then she would have to wake up early the next morning to prepare food for her uncle’s daughter.

Fortunately for Salome there was Mama Linda’s Excellent Academy nearby. Salome was able to board at our campus, receive a quality education and the unconditional love of Jesus. She has a hope for her future that she has never had before. Thank you for making this possible through your giving!

Our teens just wrapped up a wonderful week at “Count Me In” Youth Camp. Salome and Bredah were two of the girls who went. Both were greatly impacted by the time they spent at camp. Bredah wrote, “In my everyday life it is my prayer that God will help me not to live a life of failure nor just survive. I loved camp. It taught me about praying and praising. Everything I learned at camp was so very good.” Thank you to everyone who gave!

This month, in celebration of our MLEA’s 10 year anniversary we are raising funds for the replacement of 200 school desks. A gift of $50 will buy a new school desk. Click here to donate now. In addition, we are raising funds for the renovation of our PreK-Std 6 classrooms. We need to add windows and seal off the open areas so the bats no longer come in at night and make a mess. A gift of $500 will refurbish one classroom. We have eight to complete. Click here to donate now.

Thank you friends and partners for joining with us to change the world!

Bringing hope to the hopeless,

Kyle and Victoria
