Martin Murangiri

Martin’s parents have both passed on after their battle with AIDS.   His grandmother told the medics that they came just at the right time because the children had started becoming sickly and she didn’t have money to take them to a hospital.  Martin and his sister, Lillian’s health improved once they received the antiretroviral medication (ARVs). However they frequently went without due to Lillian’s numerous kilometer walk  to reach the clinic, her poor health, the impassable rivers or when the resident monkeys would simply steal them out of her hands believing it to be food. Martin and Lillian would usually leave their home with 3 donkeys at 6 am to walk for approximately 10-15 kms to fetch water from a river to return home at noon with 6 jerricans of water which they did not boil before drinking.
