Can the next world-famous Kenyan runner come from Tharaka? This is the question I’ve asked our children many times. And what better way is there to discover that world-class runner than to host a 5K race at our school?
The 5th Annual Excellent Academy 5K Race is being held on the campus of Each1 Feed1 on June 24th, 2017. The race is a great opportunity to gather the children in the community to come out and see if they have what it takes to be a world-class Kenyan runner!
We believe these children are capable of becoming anything they want to be when they grow up. This event always brings excitement for the entire community. It encourages the children to run the race set before them with perseverance and teaches them how to cheer one another on. All of the parents, families, and friends will be there to watch. This is a huge deal in Tharaka!
Mourine ran the 5K race for the first time last year. She had tragically been orphaned after her father was set on fire and burned to death by the local villagers for stealing. Mourine was stigmatized and abandoned, but after running the race through the cheering crowd Mourine was beaming from ear to ear. Her efforts were rewarded with a silver medal. Mourine experienced the love of Jesus through a 5K race!
Last year we had 250 participants and each one received a race T-shirt complete with a running number and prizes. Food and Gatorade were provided at the finish line for the runners and their families too. In order for this to continue being a tradition, we need your help. The total needed is $2,000. Will you donate $25, $50, $100, $500, even $2,000 today?
