There is an exciting event approaching us soon. The 4th annual Excellent Academy 5K Race is being held in Tharaka June 25th, 2016. The race is a great opportunity to gather the children in the community to come out and use their athletic abilities for the glory of God.
We believe these children are capable of becoming anything they want to when they grow up, including world-class marathon runners. This event always brings excitement for the entire community. It encourages the children to run the race set before them with perseverance and teaches them how to cheer one another on. All of the parents, families, and friends, including Chief Jacob, will be there to watch. This is a big deal in Tharaka!
Funny story. Last year we allowed the other schools in the area to bring two of their best runners. The winner that year was from a visiting school. The 8th grade young “man” collected his medal and then drove off on his motorcycle. The facial hair should have given it away. As my dad used to joke, “I loved the 8th grade. I spent 3 of the best years of my life in the 8th grade.” Now we ask for a birth certificate from our visiting athletes!
Last year we had 250 participants, and each one received a race T-shirt with a running number and prizes. Food and Gatorade were provided at the finish line for the runners and their families too. In order for this to continue being a tradition, we need your help. The total needed is $2,000. Will you donate $25, $50, $100, $500, even $1,000 today?
